What We Believe at Moorestown Community Church

The Scriptures

The Scriptures

The Scriptures

In its original document, We believe Scripture is the infallible and inerrant Word of God. Scripture is God-breathed or inspired by God. The Bible is made up of sixty-six books which are the only books that meet the requirements of infallibility, inerrancy, and inspiration. Furthermore, these sixty-six books were recognized by the early church and canonized as the only sacred texts. Scripture is the primary source of guidance and truth for the Christian life and should be turned to in all matters concerning the Christian life. It is also the final authority in all matters of Christian faith and practice. No one should ever take away or add to the Holy Scripture of God. The Scripture is the foundation for all Christians and is useful for teaching, rebuking, and correcting.

2 Timothy 3:16 | 2 Peter 1:21 | John 17:17

God the Father

The Scriptures

The Scriptures

God the Father is Holy and, therefore, cannot be in sight of sin. The Father is the sovereign Creator, along with the Son and the Spirit. God the Father is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present everywhere. He is a gracious God who has provided a salvation plan through His Son Jesus. He has adopted all who have put their faith in His grace, through His Son alone. God the Father is the ultimate judge and will have victory over all evil, and His kingdom will prevail on earth as it is in heaven. No one will ever be able to grasp God the Father fully. He has revealed what He wants to reveal to humankind through Scripture (specific revelation) and nature (natural revelation). God the Father is worthy of praise, adoration, allegiance, and obedience.

1 Corinthians 8:6 | Ephesians 4:6-7 | Isaiah 64:8 | 2 Samuel 22:33 | Isaiah 40:28

God the Son

The Scriptures

God the Holy Spirit

We believe God the Son eternally exists with God the Father and God the Spirit. Each of which is equal in power and deity. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. Jesus Christ became fully human while remaining fully divine. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit to a virgin named Mary. He lived a perfect life as a human in perfect obedience, having victory over all temptation that came His way. He voluntarily gave his life to atone for the sins of humankind by dying on the cross as their substitute. His earthly body was resurrected from the grave and therefore had victory over sin on humankind's behalf. He ascended into heaven, where He resides today at the right hand of God the Father. He intercedes to the Father for those who have put their faith in His completed work on the Cross. Jesus Christ will return to defeat God's enemies and evil. He will judge the living and the dead and ultimately hand the kingdom to the Father. He will dwell in this new kingdom forever with the redeemed.

God the Holy Spirit

God the Holy Spirit

God the Holy Spirit

We believe God the Spirit eternally exists with God the Father and God the Son. Each of which is equal in power and deity. The Holy Spirit was sent into the world by the Father and the Son to equip humanity with the saving work of Christ. When an individual puts their faith alone, in God's grace alone, through Jesus Christ, they are permanently indwelt with the Holy Spirit. He convicts, equips, and empowers the believer to do good works for the Lord. He uniquely gives each believer spiritual gifts used to build up the body of Christ. The Holy Spirit also guides believers into a deeper understanding of Scripture and how to apply it to their walk with God. His presence in a believer is manifested through the fruit of the Spirit to the glory and honor of God. The Holy Spirit also provides boldness when asked to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20 | John 14:14-16 & 26 | Matthew 3:16-17

The Trinity

God the Holy Spirit

The Trinity

We believe the Trinity is the Triune God. The Trinity includes God the Father, Son, and Spirit, all of who are equal in deity. Though they are equal in deity, they are distinguished in roles and characteristics and therefore are distinct persons. This means that the Father is not the Son or Spirit; the Son is not the Father or Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Father or Son. We believe that each is fully God, but there is only one God. The Trinity is what encompasses all of the Church and is how the Church is able to live out the commands of Scripture by sharing the good news of God the Son and glorifying God the Father by living a Spirit-filled life that is being driven by God the Spirit.

Matthew 28:19 | 1 Corinthians 8:6 | John 14:26 | Matthew 3:16-17

Creation

God the Holy Spirit

The Trinity

We believe that in the beginning, God created the heavens and earth. God spoke all of creation into existence by His very words. God created the universe out of nothing. Only by God's grace does all of humankind enjoy His beautiful creation. God created man and woman in His image and wanted to dwell with them forever in the garden. However, God's creation has been corrupted through sin, and his design of a Holy creation and direct communion with Him is gone. God will one day restore His creation to the Holy creation He created. We believe God has masterfully and sovereignty designed His creation to adapt to the environment. Finally, We believe it is the responsibility of Christians to take care of God’s creation and glorify Him through His creation.

The Fall

The Church

Salvation

We believe that Adam and Eve were created as image-bearers of God. They were placed in the Garden of Eden to enjoy an intimate relationship with God. We believe God intended all thoughts, words, and actions of Adam and Eve and, ultimately, mankind to represent God and His Creation. However, temptation entered Adam and Eve through Satan, who disguised himself as a serpent. Adam and Eve willingly gave into the temptation. They disobeyed God and His request of not eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and therefore fell from this eternal paradise and happiness and were cast out of the Garden. The consequences of the original sin committed by Adam and Eve have been imputed onto all of humanity and have had a far-reaching effect on every generation. All of humanity is born spiritually dead with a sinful desire. The harmony God created is broken, and all fall short of God’s glory because of the separation He must make with sin.

Salvation

The Church

Salvation

We believe that God's revelation in Scripture is to call all people back to a relationship with Him. God the Father accomplished this through the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This sovereign plan of salvation is because of God's grace alone. We believe that salvation only happens when an individual puts their faith alone in Jesus Christ alone through God's saving grace alone. Salvation only occurs through an intentional confession that the individual is a sinner and their only hope lies in the completed work of Jesus Christ on the Cross. We believe that those who have been saved are viewed as God's elect or chosen. This does not mean that the individual did not have a part in their salvation; it means that God took the initiative through His grace and therefore deserves the credit for the salvation of His people. In other words, We believe that God is sovereign over all of His Creation and humanity, including salvation into His eternal kingdom. Finally, I believe that once an individual is saved, he or she is sealed as an adopted child of God for eternity and cannot lose salvation.

The Church

The Church

The Sacraments

We believe that Jesus is the Head of the Church. That is the Church that consists of Christ's followers who have put their faith and allegiance in Christ. We also believe in the local church, which is a local assembly that meets through their faith in Jesus Christ to grow in their relationship with Jesus and one another. The growth of the individual members happens through spiritual formation. This growth in Jesus and one another allows the members to create a strong body that will more effectively be the hands and feet of Jesus. We also believe the Church is called to go and make disciples and teach the good news of Jesus Christ. The Church is to be united under Christ with the common purpose of fulfilling the Great Commission and the two greatest commandments by Jesus (love God and love others).

Colossians 1:18 | Colossians 3:16 | Hebrews 10:24-25 | Romans 12:4-5 | Matthew 28:19-20

The Sacraments

The Return of Christ

The Sacraments

We believe God established two sacraments in the New Testament for the Church; the Lord's Supper and baptism. The Lord's Supper is to be observed regularly for two reasons; one, in remembrance of Christ's death, and two, to proclaim the Lord's death until He comes again. Baptism can be performed by sprinkling, pouring, or submerging in water in the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

Matthew 18:18-20 | 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 | 1 Corinthians 11:26 | Acts 2:16 & 38 | Acts 10:48 | Romans 6:3

The Return of Christ

The Return of Christ

The Return of Christ

We believe that the Bible clearly teaches that Jesus will come to earth again. The Bible also clearly teaches that the second coming will be sudden and unexpected. We believe that there will be signs of the second coming of Jesus Christ, but no one can calculate the time and date, not even Jesus Himself. Though we are to eagerly await His return, we are not to sit around and wait; we are to be His vessels, proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to all we encounter. The return of Christ will bring in the Kingdom in which God's goodness will be triumphant, and His truth will be known to all of the nations. On this day, Jesus will come from heaven in blazing fire with powerful angels. People will marvel at His glory and will praise and honor Him. We believe during this return, Christ will eternally judge, and eternal destinations will be assigned.

Matthew 24:26 | John 14:3 | Hebrews 9:28 | Revelation 3:11 | Revelation 22:12

Judgment

The Return of Christ

The Return of Christ

We believe during Jesus' second coming He will judge both the living and the dead. This judgment will be the final deciding factor of where all spend eternity. We believe there is heaven and hell. Heaven, where God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit reside. All who put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will eternally exist in heaven, within God’s holy city, the New Jerusalem. Those who have not put their faith in Jesus Christ will be eternally condemned to hell (lake of fire), where they will be separated from God and heaven. During this judgment, God will take back His kingdom once and for all, creating a new heaven and earth. This will be the final battle of good and evil, where good will prevail, and Satan will be cast into hell to spend all of eternity.

Matthew 12:36 | Luke 23:43 | 2 Corinthians 5:10 | 2 Thessalonians 1:9 | Revelation 21:4 & 8

Our Positions

Marriage and Sexuality

Marriage and Sexuality

Marriage and Sexuality

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one legitimate meaning, and that is marriage sanctioned by God, which joins one man and one woman in a single, covenantal union as delineated by Scripture. Marriage ceremonies performed in any facility or space owned, leased, or rented by this church will be only those ceremonies sanctioned by God, joining one man with one woman as their genders were determined at birth (and not subject to change). Whenever there is a conflict between the church’s position or any new legal standard for marriage, the church’s statement of faith, doctrines, and biblical positions will govern.

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage as defined in (a) above. We believe that any other type of sexual activity, identity, or expression that lies outside of this definition of marriage are contradictory to God’s natural design and purpose for sexual activity.

Genesis 2:24 | Mark 10:6-9 | 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 | 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 | Hebrews 13:4

Sanctity of LIfe

Marriage and Sexuality

Marriage and Sexuality

Abortion: We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being created in the image of God and should be valued and protected.

Euthanasia: We believe that an intentional act or omission that facilitates premature death, is assuming a decision that is to be reserved for God. We do not believe that discontinuing medical procedures that are extraordinary or disproportionate to the expected outcome is euthanasia.
