Job Title: Senior Pastor

Reports To: Board of Elders

Position Status: Part-Time, Salaried

Location: Lake City, Michigan


Position Summary:

The Senior Pastor serves as the spiritual leader of Moorestown Community Church, providing Christ-centered preaching, pastoral care, visionary leadership, and administrative oversight. He is responsible for faithfully shepherding the congregation, equipping the saints for the work of ministry, and leading the church in fulfilling its mission to glorify God and make disciples of Jesus Christ.


Primary Responsibilities:

1. Preaching and Teaching

  • Regularly preach Bible-based sermons during Sunday worship services.
  • Teach sound doctrine that aligns with the church’s statement of faith.
  • Oversee the teaching ministries of the church, including Bible studies, small groups, and discipleship training.


2. Shepherding and Pastoral Care

  • Provide spiritual care and counsel to members of the congregation.
  • Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other ordinances or sacraments as needed.
  • Visit and pray with members who are sick, grieving, or in crisis.


3. Vision and Leadership

  • Cast a compelling, biblically grounded vision for the church’s future.
  • Collaborate with the elders/deacons/staff to develop strategic plans and ministry goals.
  • Lead the church in outreach, missions, and community engagement.


4. Staff Oversight and Administration

  • Supervise and support pastoral staff and ministry leaders.
  • Work with church leadership to develop the annual budget and oversee ministry spending.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and ministries reflect biblical principles and church values.


5. Leadership Collaboration

  • Serve alongside the Elder board.
  • Lead regular staff and leadership meetings.
  • Mentor and develop future leaders within the church.


Qualifications:

  • A clear, personal testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a calling to pastoral ministry.
  • Meets the biblical qualifications of an elder/pastor (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:6–9). With the understanding that a candidate may be a woman.
  • Minimum of a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from an accredited seminary preferred.
  • Ordained or willing to be ordained by our congregation. 
  • At least 5 years of experience in pastoral ministry, preferably in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong preaching, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Agreement with and commitment to the church’s doctrinal statement and mission.

  • Biblical Preaching – Clearly and faithfully preaches the Word of God, providing sound, Spirit-led, and practical teaching that applies Scripture to daily life.
  • Approachability – Maintains a welcoming and relational spirit, making people feel comfortable sharing their needs, concerns, and joys.
  • Dependability – Demonstrates consistency, reliability, and follow-through in pastoral responsibilities, building trust with the congregation and leadership.
  • Pastoral Care – Regularly provides compassionate care through hospital visits, home visits, and being present with individuals and families in times of need.
  • Shepherd’s Heart – Leads with a genuine love for God’s people, guiding, nurturing, and protecting the flock with patience and grace.
  • Prayer Leadership – Models and prioritizes a life of prayer, interceding faithfully for the congregation, community, and global church.
  • Sense of Humor – Brings warmth and joy to ministry through a healthy sense of humor, helping to foster connection and community.
  • Effective Communication – Communicates with clarity and conviction, both in preaching and in everyday interactions, ensuring that vision and truth are understood.
  • Active Listening – Listens attentively and empathetically to individuals, valuing their perspectives and responding with wisdom and care.
  • Humility – Leads with a servant’s heart, acknowledging personal limitations and giving glory to God rather than seeking personal recognition.
  • Integrity – Models Christlike character in all areas of life, demonstrating honesty, transparency, and moral courage.
